About Groningen

Groningen, is a major city in the northern part of Holland with a population of 185,000 citizen and it is a 8th largest city in the Netherlands. This large city with its own hospitality is the capital of the province which is also called Groningen. It's easy to feel comfortable in this city, mainly because of the large open area in between beautiful modern construction and the small houses. Groningen city is a student town and also the youngest city in the Netherlands (the large number of students and more than half the population is younger than 35 years).


The city has several attractions:

  • Grote Markt, located in the city center. No other city offers a terrace and pedestrian areas that indirectly invites you to enjoy a glass of drinking and chatting in the early spring and late autumn.
  • Church of the famous Martini. Martini tower built from the 12th century. Although what you can see the most is a relic of the 16th century.
  • Museum of Groningen (by Mendini), an example of modern and stunning architecture. It has collection of paintings from the 17th century. Some other museums in town are the Anatomical Museum, the Northern Maritime Museum, the Niemeijer Tobacco Museum, the Gerardus van der Leeuw Anthropological Museum, the Museum of Graphic Art, and the University Museum.
